It’s odd to think that Sea of Thieves is in its fifth year. Rare has given players countless unforgettable experiences since 2017, and new content has been added all the time. The newest addition, The Shrouded Islands, is only available for a few days, but don’t worry – PC Game Pass gives you full access to the game for just $1.
Rare has added several new story components to the game over the years (notably including the Pirates of the Caribbean crossover), but The Shrouded Islands is definitely the most enjoyable in my opinion. One of the game’s outposts (usually a safe area full of NPCs) has been shrouded in thick fog, and all the characters there have disappeared. You have to go out and investigate.
What follows is a thrilling adventure that perfectly captures that ancient, supernatural pirate aura. It’s really creepy at times, and the tingle of unraveling a dark mystery runs through the whole thing. I’ve been playing this game since the beginning and it makes me really excited to see what they’re going to do next.
But that’s why you need to start playing today – this is the first of several adventures that are only available for a limited time. Indeed, you can only play this part of the story until the end of Thursday (March 3), after which the next limited-time adventure begins.
Shrouded Islands adventures can be completed in a few hours, so even if you don’t start until Wednesday, you’ll still have plenty of time to experience it for yourself. While it’s a shame that this little story will soon become inaccessible, it’s pretty exciting to go on an adventure in the game’s shared world and positively influence and change locations accessible to everyone.

Since the game is available on Game Pass, and you’re currently getting a one-month subscription for just $1, it makes sense to take this opportunity to dive in and start living your best pirate life. The Shrouded Islands will be a great introduction to the game and can be enjoyed without any prior knowledge of the world or environment. I wish I could start using it in 2017.
If you missed your chance to enjoy this adventure until March 3rd, don’t worry: you can still move on to the next part of the adventure – if it’s similar to the first, you’ll be in for a treat, and the game may fill any gaps for you.
