Tim Shaffer says only new IP, no Warcraft remake
While StarCraft: Ghosts and MMORPG Titans are Blizzard’s most famous canceled games, they’re not the only ones. Warcraft Adventures: Lord of the Clans was an early attempt at World of Warcraft to expand the lore of Warcraft through a point-and-click adventure game. But now that Activision Blizzard is about to go head-to-head with Double Fine’s adventure veterans, is there any hope of a revival?
Double Fine boss Tim Schafer said no. “[Former Double Fine developer, now at Valve] Brad Muir in the suggestion We took on Warcraft Adventures,” Schaeffer told IGN. “You know, the full-throttle age adventure game they made. But no, we like to make our own stuff at Double Fine, so they don’t give us any IP. “
In fact, after the excellent Psychonauts 2 was released, Schafer wanted to return to all of Double Fine’s original content. Schafer said: “I’ve worked on a few other games that are technical and they’re all sequels, but the first really big follow-up to a big story is Pscyhnonauts 2. I think that makes me want to come up with something new for the next phase. The idea of is really what I think now.”
